Our Story & History
In 2017, Emily Read Daniels was working as a high school counselor in New Hampshire supporting students struggling with substance misuse, trauma, and mental health challenges. She began to see that many of her students were not inherently disruptive or defiant, but were operating from chronic states of stress and survival.
She recognized that supporting students more effectively begins with better supporting teachers. For Daniels, understanding and applying the science of the nervous system is life-changing—and she saw its potential to transform educators’ lives.
Viola, The Regulated Classroom® was born.
The first guidebook was published in February 2020. Since then, more than 50,000 copies have been sold, shipped to more than 500 U.S. cities and 13 countries.
In 2022, The Regulated Classroom® was selected by the New Hampshire Department of Education (NH DOE) to address widespread teacher stress and burnout in the wake of the pandemic. The Maine Department of Education (Maine DOE) followed and sponsored state-wide contracts in 2023, 2024, 2025, and 2026 training more than 2,000 licensed TRC® Peer Trainers. The results have been compelling.
The regulation revolution has arrived and The Regulated Classroom® intends to lead this change in schools across the U.S. and beyond.
